a closer look at the material

faq + specifications

Concrete has a character of its own. Here is what to expect, and what to check before your tiles become part of a space.

material + finish

What are Planck tiles made from?

Our tiles are cast concrete, made in Hamilton, Ontario. CNC-made masters and moulds give each design its sculptural relief. Colour is mixed into the body.

What does the finish look like?

A sprayed, water-based clear coat gives the concrete a subtle sealed sheen. Light catches the raised forms while the concrete texture remains visible. The appearance changes with viewing angle and lighting; a physical sample is the best reference.

Will every tile look identical?

No. Small pores, air bubbles, colour shifts and slight edge variations are part of the casting process. Arrange and blend tiles before installation to find the balance you like. Contact us about cracks or damage before installing.

Are the website images exact colour matches?

Product images show our sculptural designs with a sealed finish. Screen colour and lighting vary, and some colour selections share a representative image, identified on the product page. Order a sample to confirm colour, texture and sheen. Gallery images are room concepts.

planning + installation

What size are the tiles?

The current tiles have a nominal 6 × 6 inch face. Four tile faces cover one square foot before joints and cutting allowance. Relief and overall thickness depend on the design; ask for the dimensions of your selected figure before detailing an installation.

Can I use them on floors, in showers, outdoors or near a fireplace?

Tell us the intended location before ordering. Those applications require confirmation of the particular tile, coating, substrate and installation system. Room imagery is design inspiration, not an approval for a specific application. Ask the studio for project-specific suitability.

How should the pattern be installed?

Dry-lay several tiles to check pattern direction, rotation and joints before fixing them. An installer experienced with concrete and relief tile should confirm the substrate, setting materials, joint width and movement joints for the project. Request the installation details for your selected design.

How much should I order?

Measure the area and have your installer allow for cuts, layout and spares. Coverage estimates based on tile faces do not include grout joints or waste. Share your layout with us if you need help preparing the order.

care + ordering

How do I care for the finish?

Use a soft cloth for routine dusting. Before applying any cleaning product or additional sealer, ask the studio for instructions for your coating. Avoid abrasive pads and test an approved cleaner in an inconspicuous area first.

Will the tiles need resealing?

Maintenance depends on the coating and the installation environment. Contact us before applying another coating so we can confirm compatibility and the appropriate maintenance process.

Can I order samples?

Yes. Samples are 10 dollars each. They let you check the actual material, relief and finish in your own lighting before ordering a larger area.

What is the price and how do I order?

The current collection is 40 dollars per square foot, with a minimum of 8 square feet. Add samples or an area to your cart and send your request to the studio. We will confirm availability, lead time and delivery details.

Are all eleven collections available?

Chladni is our first collection. The other collections are in development; their inspiration pages preview the direction of the work. Contact us for news about a particular collection.
